Sideways (2004, lang. English)

Finally got to watch the much-hyped-about film Sideways last night, courtesy of Planet DVD of course, as I'm assuming our town mupltiplex did not find it worthy to include in its repertoire. I guess movies like these are only good for our fellow Nicosians as they are more likely to understand them; instead us Neanderthal Limassolians should only be allowed to watch action flicks and blockbusters as probably they are closer to our nature. By the way the film everyone anywhere in the world talked about most this year, i.e. Closer, was only brought to our small town for a week's showing, whereas the "amazingly true" Constantine has been going strong for the past 3 weeks and counting ...
Anyhow, back to Sideways; yes it was very enjoyable, yes it had excellent dialogue and yes Paul Giamati and Virginia Madsen were true stars in it, however why is it that what would be a good European film, when made by Americans is always labelled as "making cinematic history"? Again, it makes you wonder!
